LeOra M. Hayes Wyker
LeOra Mae Hayes Wyker, 88, died Saturday, January 26, 2002, at the St. Marys Manor.
She was born November 15, 1913, in Cherryvale, the daughter of Bert and Bessie Paige Hayes.
LeOra and her family moved to the Rossville community where she attended both grade and high school. After a beauty apprenticeship, she opened a beauty shop in St. Marys, retiring after 60 years of hair care. LeOra lived in St. Marys for many years.
She was a member of the Rossville Christian Church, and was active in the United Methodist Church in St. Marys. She was a member of [tive] in the United Methodist Church in St. Marys. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Loyal Chapter No. 176 in Silver Lake, and. was a member of the American Legion Hoy Heim Auxiliary Unit 178 for 34 years in St. Marys.
In 1954, she married Chester Wyker. He died in 1967. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Glen Hayes; and a sister, Audrey Gelsinger.
Surviving her are a stepdaughter, Pamela Pace, St. Marys; a brother, Lowell Hayes, in Colorado; two sisters, Pauline Henderson, Carrollton, MO, and Bernita Niddiffer, Pampa, TX; three grandsons; six nephews and three nieces.
A graveside service was at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (this morning) in the Greenwood Cemetery south of Belvue. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Belvue.
A family visitation at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home was Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:00. The American Legion Hoy Heim Auxiliary Unit 178 and Loyal Chapter No. 176 conducted memorial services at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Marys Manor, Heart of America Hospice, or the charity of the donor’s choice and sent in care of the funeral home, 714 Maple, St. Marys 66536.
