Mrs. Martin Hass
Eliza E. Burnett was born in Virginia, April 25, 1850, and came to Kansas at the age of seven with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Obidiah Burnett, and settled near Lecompton. Later the family moved to Holton where she was united in marriage in January 1869 to Martin Hass. In 1878 Mr. and Mrs. Hass moved to Rossville to the present home, where she had resided for 52 years.
To this union five children, one son and four daughters were born, all of whom survive; Herman Hass, Mrs. Sam Hoover and Mrs. David Davis of Rossville, Mrs. C.F. Howerton of Silver Lake, and Mrs. W.A. Hoover of Holton. Besides these there are seven grand children and two great grand children, two sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Hass had been a devout member of the Church of the Brethern [sic] since girlhood.
The funeral was held Saturday March 29, at 2:30 p.m. at the home, conducted by Rev. Wright of Lawrence, Kansas. Miss Grace Sanders, accompanied by Miss Williamette Navarre, sang two numbers. The pall bearers were: Marvin Davis, Clark McPherson, E.D. Stephens, A.J. Thomas, C.M. McPherson and Hudson McCollough. Interment was in Rossville cemetery.
