Obituary- Coleman, Thomas 1

Obituary.

Thomas J. Coleman, a venerable and highly esteemed citizen of Rossville, entered into rest, June 21st, 1895.

He was born in Maryland, March 20, 1806. When fourteen years of age he moved to Washington, Indiana, where he lived until 1869, from whence he removed to Kansas, settling in Menoken Tp., Shawnee county, where two sons now reside.

He was married to Lucinda Martin, Aug. 25th, 1827. His wife, with whom he lived to celebrate their Golden Wedding, was called Home nearly eighteen years ago. Ten children, five sons and five daughters, were born to them. Three were in attendance at the funeral service, the other four being in New Mexico. Father Coleman united with the Christian Church fifty five years ago, ever since which time he remained a faithful member of the same. This Father in Israel had for several years made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Gilbert, and until the last few years was a familiar face in Rossville, visiting the sick, calling on friends and regular at church services. As the infirmities of old age crept on him he became confined to the house, and for nearly seventeen months was in his room most of the time. At times he suffered greatly, but always bore it patiently, looking forward to his releases with hopes for a blessed future, often expressing a wish to die and be at rest. He was glad to have friends call, and to talk with them of the hope beyond, his conception of spiritual truths growing clearer day by day.
