Obituary- McAdams, Margaret 1
Obituary.
Margaret McAdams was born at Rossville November 16th, 1872. She passed on to her reward there at the home of her parents, November 29th, and was laid to rest in the Rossville cemetery, December 1st, 1905.
The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church, the Rev. C.A. Finch of the First Christian Church of Topeka officiating. He was assisted by Rev. H.L. Nelson, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, and also by his quartet choir from Topeka. Sometime before, Margaret had selected the songs, "Home of the Soul" and "Nearer my God to Thee," requesting the choir to sing them feeling that she was singing with them, as she had done many times in the past year in their church in Topeka. The minister chose his text from the 20th chapter of Numbers, and first verse: "And Miriam died there, and was buried there." He spoke of the similarity of Margaret's life to that of Miriam, in that she began to serve the Lord in youth and continued in his service all her life. He also likened her leadership gift of song to Miriam when she took her "Timbre! and led the Israelites in their song of victory." Margaret had been in close fellowship with his Church work for the last year and his personal acquaintance enabled him to speak words of comfort to her family and friends concerning her life and character.
The Rev. H.L. Nelson spoke of his acquaintance with her, and the uplift which her association inspired. He told of his talk with her when she arranged for her funeral. At that time she said was ready to go, but dreaded passing through the dark valley. "You will not be alone, Jesus will be your light," he said to her. "Oh yes," she said, her countenance lighting up at the thought.
Many loving tributes of flowers from friends far and near were banked about the casket. Robed in pure white she lay "Asleep in Jesus," with one hand holding a cluster of flowers.
The spacious Church was filled with friends who knew and loved her.
