Martha Cowan
ROSSVILLE — Martha J. Cowan, 67, Rossville, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at a Topeka hospital.
Mrs. Cowan had worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Topeka, and she worked for Santa Fe Rail¬way in Topeka for more than 30 years.
She was born Feb. 14, 1935, in Corning, the daughter of Francis John “Frank” and Mary “Marie" Haefele Rottinghaus. She was raised in Coming and Kelly and graduated from Kelly High School in 1953. She attended the Sister of Charity Nursing School in Leavenworth.
Mrs. Cowan was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville and the Altar Society at the church.
She married Keith F. Cowan on Jan. 4, 1974, In Topeka. He died on Aug. 3, 1998.
Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Vaughn, Tecumseh, Diane Peaslee, Elbert, Colo., and Katherine Moore, Rossville; seven sisters, Mary Kongs and Dolores Engel, both of Topeka, Veronica Stallbaumer, Basehor, and Joan Platt, Henderson¬ville, Tenn., Margaret Rethman, Seneca, Lucille Koelzer, Axtell, and Rosemary Runnebaum, Kansas City, Kan.; four brothers, Francis Rottinghaus Jr., Seneca, Robert Rottinghaus, Kansas City, Mo., Jim Rottinghaus, Overland Park, and Gerald Rotting¬haus, Burke, Va.; five grandchildren; and two great¬grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Chur ch in Rossville. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Marys. Mrs. Cowan will lie in state at Piper- Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys after 2 p.m. Monday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church or to the American Heart Association and sent in care of the funeral home.
