Obituary- Cromwell, Nell 2

ROSSVILLE – Nell Marie Cromwell, 100, Rossville, died Friday, Feb 23, 2001, at a Rossville nursing home.
Mrs. Cromwell went to work for Dr. Joe Cowherd in Kansas City, MO, in 1918, caring for newborns and children under his care. Her work took her to St. Louis, Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia, Joplin, MO., and Ponca City, Okla., as she delivered children for treatment by specialists. She worked in Kansas City, Mo., until 1944 and then returned to Valley Falls to care for her parents. She later worked part time in Kansas City, MO., from 1966 to 1987.
She was born June 22, 1900, in Valley Falls, the daughter of Louis A. and Myrtle Fletcher Newman. She was raised at Boyle. She moved to Rossville in 1987.
Mrs. Cromwell was a member of the First Christian Church in Valley Falls, the Ladies Aid, Christian Women’s Fellowship. She assisted in repair and cleaning of items to sell in the Thrift Shop. She also was a charter member of the Valley Falls Historical Society.
She married William R. Cromwell on Jan. 29, 1929 in Independence Mo. He died March 11, 1935.
Survivors include a brother, Ernest Newman, Lavergne, Tenn.
Mrs. Cromwell was cremated. Memorial services will be private. Inurnment in Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo., also will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Valley Falls or to the Historical Society of Valley Falls, sent in care of Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka.
