Curran

William Robert Curran was born Dec. 23, 1923, near Delia, the son of John and Bettie Adams Curran and died Feb. 22 in a Topeka hospital at the age of 61 years two months.

Bill, as he was known to family and friends, attended school at High Prairie north of Delia until the family moved near Denison, where he finished grade school at Point Pleasant. Bill went to stay with his grandmother to attend high school at Delia, returning home to finish his senior year at Denison, graduating in 1942. He served in the United States Army from Feb. 1943 to Feb. 1946. Bill did farming, construction work and electrical work, then in 1951 he went to work for Michigan-Wisconsin Pipeline Company until his retirement in 1983.

Bill and Maxine June Huss were married April 27, 1946 and lived in Holton until 1959 when they moved to a farm southwest of Holton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Maxine; six daughters, Connie Sue Renfro, and husband Dale, Martha Dreitzler and husband Don, Cynthia Degand and husband James, Tracy Bryant and husband Bruce, Karen Spiker and husband Mike and Teresa Criqui; one son, Michael and wife Geneva; one sister, Betty Buehler and husband Eldon; one brother John Curran; a brother-in-law, Merle Huss and wife Jerri; 13 grandchildren; two aunts; one uncle; niece, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25 from the Mercer Funeral Home with the Rev. Duane Kessler officiating. Burial was in the Holton Cemetery. Special organ music was furnished by Mrs. Carol Reed, who played “In The Garden” and “Beyond The Sunset.” Casketbearers were Roy Walrod, Tex Manuel, Ray Harshaw, “Mitch” Tuckwin, Paul Luscombe and Leon Daughtery. Memorials were made to the donors choice.


William Robert Curran

HOLTON - William Robert Curran, 61, Holton, died Friday, Feb. 22, at a Topeka hospital.

Mr. Curran worked for Michigan-Wisconsin Pipeline Co. 31 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was born Dec. 23, 1923, at Delia; the son of John C. and Bettie Adams Curran, and spent all his life in Jackson County.

He was married April 27, 1946, to Maxine June Huss at Hiawatha. She survives. A daughter, Charlene Curran, died in 1946.

Other survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Connie Sue Renfro, Onaga, Mrs. Martha E. Dreitzler, Tampa, Fla., Mrs. Cynthia Degand, Mayetta, and Mrs. Teresa Criqui, Mrs. Tracy Bryant and Mrs. Karen Spiker, all of Holton; a son, Michael Curran, Hoyt; a sister, Mrs. Betty Buehler, Mayetta; a brother, John Curran, Mayetta; and 13 grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mercer Funeral Home here. Burial will be in Holton Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
