Z. Wauneta Darting
Z. Wauneta Darting, 93, Emmett, passed away Aug. 23, 2013, at the Rossville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 4, 1920, at rural Soldier, the daughter of Ray¬mond and Griffie Adams Andrick.
Mrs. Darting grew up in the rural Delia area and graduated from Soldier High School in 1940 with a normal training certificate. She earned two degrees while teaching, going to night school and summer school at Washburn Univer-sity. Mrs. Darting taught 19 years in one-room rural schools in Jackson County and 21 years as a first-grade teacher in Shawnee County. She was a member of the Emmett United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma and also the Jolly Workers Club in Emmett.
She was united in marriage to Cleafes A. Darting on June 14, 1941. He preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1966. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three infant siblings, a sister, Lenora Darting, her son, Roy A. Darting, on June 23, 2010, and two grandchildren, Jeffery Darting in 1993 and Lucas Rojas in 2001.
Survivors include a son, Gerry R. Darting of Rossville; two daughters, Betty J. Darting of Emmett and Wilma W. Rojas of Rossville; a brother, John Andrick of Rossville; two sisters, Genevieve Jacobson of Rossville and Dorothy Redmon of Topeka; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Aug. 29 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Interment followed in the Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Capper Foundation and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, KS 66536.
