Obituary- Erickson, Charles 2

When he was 70 years old Mr. Erickson became cashier in the hos¬pitality shop at Stormont-Vail Hospital, where he worked 15 years until he retired at age 85.
He was born Dec. 21, 1897, at Eureka, the son of Andrew and Martha Hover Erickson. He served in the Army during World War I. In 1923 he graduated from Washburn College, where he was captain of the basketball team. He spent most of his life in Topeka.
He was president of the Washburn University Alumni Association in 1957, and was named to the Washburn Athletic Hall of Fame in 1970. He was former president of the Kansas State Board of Social Welfare.
Mr. Erickson was named Greater Topeka Sportsman of the Year in 1968, and was named Citizen of the Year by the Topeka Civitan Club in 1979.
He was a member of Washburn Alumni Club, Ichabod Club, Downtown Topeka Lions Club, Kappa Sig¬ma social fraternity and Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion, all in Topeka; and of Rising Sun Lodge No. 8, AF&AM, and Scottish Rife bodies both at Fort Scott.
He was married to Maureen O’Connor Dec. 21, 1935, at Atchison. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Rev. John Erickson, St. Marys, and Mark Erickson. Rossville; a daughter, Hilda A. Enewold, Topeka; two sisters, Leone Doze, Irving, Texas, and Eleanor Anderson, Topeka; a brother, Arthur Erickson, Topeka; and three granddaughters.
Cremation is planned. Inurnment will be in Mount Hope Mausoleum. A Spalding Club rosary will be at 3:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the already-established Dee Erickson Athletic Scholarship Fund and sent in care of Washburn University, 1700 College, 66621; or to Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center, 1500 W. 10th, 66604.
