Dr. Gene Davis

ROSSVILLE - - Dr. Gene L. Davis, 59, Rossville, who formerly taught in schools in Topeka, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at a Topeka hospital. He had been ill.

He was born July 15, 1943, near Rossville, to Marvin D. and Irene M. Lasswell Davis. He spent his early life in the Rossville community. He graduated from Rossville High School in 1961. He graduated from the College of Emporia and earned a master’s degree from Emporia State University. He earned a doctorate in education at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He was the coordinator for Highland Community College on the Wamego campus.

He began teaching at Marion Elementary School in Marion. He taught at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina. He was a teacher and administrator at several schools.

He was a member of the Community Congregation Church in Maple Hill and Phi Delta Kappa and Kappa Delta Phi Greek letter societies.

He married Trudi Mee on Sept. 1, 1963, in Maple Hill. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Warton, Rossville; two brothers, Ray D. Davis, Rossville, and Dean L. Davis, Maple Hill, and a grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Community Congregational Church in Maple Hill. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Dr. Davis will lie in state after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys, where visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the library fund at the Community Congregational Church in Maple Hill or to the Wamego campus of Highland Community College.
