JOHN DAVIS KILLED WHEN
HIS CAR AND BUS CRASH

John David Davis, 81, of Silver Lake, was killed late Friday afternoon, June 16, 1944, when the car he was driving and a Santa Fe bus collided. The car was demolished and Davis was thrown onto the side of the highway.
Mr. Davis lived on a farm two miles north of Silver Lake and had been a resident of the community for many years.
He was born September 22, 1862, at Linwood, Kansas, where he lived until he was fourteen years old. He later resided for a time in Oklahoma, Texas, and in the West. He had been farming in the Silver Lake community for twenty-nine years. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Teresa Davis, of the home, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Floyd Landis, Topeka; one son, Pearly Davis, Emporia; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 o’clock Monday afternoon in Peebler’s Chapel in North Topeka. Burial was in Silver Lake cemetery.
