Howard Everett Day
HOYT- Howard Everett Day, 69, of Hoyt, KS passed away January 24, 2014 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born January 20, 1945 in Topeka, KS, the son of Samuel H. and Carolyn J. (Brown) Day. He had a step-father, John Hainline, who he thought the world of. Howard graduated from Hoyt High School in 1963 and was a member of the Hoyt community since 1949. After graduation, Howard enlisted with the United States Marines and proudly served his country in Vietnam. He worked several production and construction jobs. He also worked as a farmhand for several local farmers. Howard worked for 11 years at Harrah’s Prairie Band Casino as a security officer.
He was a member of the Hoyt United Methodist Church, Mayetta Masonic Lodge #393, Holton VFW Post #1367 and in 1978, he served one year in the Holton National Guard. Howard was a hard worker and loved to be around and help people. Howard married Joanne R. Lund on September 1, 1967 in Holton, KS. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Samuel Day of Topeka, KS; his daughters, Carol Eakin (Dennis) of Delia, KS, Amy Ross (Jason) and her children, Weston and Delaney of Hoyt, KS and Becky Macintosh (Rob) and her children Katelyn and Kurtis of Hoyt, KS; his sister, Margaret L. Pinick (Eldon) of Topeka, KS. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with full military honors will be in the Hoyt Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Holton VFW Post #1367 or Holton American Legion c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
