Ernest Decker
Ernest Decker, 99, Rossville, died Sunday, September 8, 2002, at St. Marys Manor.
He was born December 22, 1902, in rural Denison, the son of Thompson Ithimer and Mary Isa¬belle Akright Decker.
He grew up in the Denison community and attended Denison School. He moved to Rossville in the spring of 1922, and worked for Standard Oil. He later owned and operated a trucking company. Mr. Decker was a farmer most of his life.
He was a 65-year member of the Rossville Christian Church, Lake Lodge AF&AM Silver Lake, and Loyal Chapter No. 176 of the Order of the Eastern Star at Silver Lake.
On January 29, 1922, he mar¬ried Mary Orrick in Topeka. She died February 27, 1989. A son, Robert Decker died in 1972. A grandson, Rodney Steele, died July 24, 1991. A granddaughter, Mari¬lyn Schmitz, died November 27,
1994. A great-granddaughter, Lisa Jones, died November 11, 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Willis Decker, Rossville, and Arthur Decker, Topeka; two daughters, Winifred Stach, Ross-ville, and Charlotte Kling, St. Marys; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
His service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Rossville Chris¬tian Church. Burial will be in the Rossville Cemetery where Lake Lodge will conduct a Masonic graveside service. He will lie in state Thursday from 2 until 4:30 p.m. at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys. A family visita¬tion will be from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at Piper Funeral Chapel in Ross¬ville
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Christian Church or to the Rossville Senior Citizens and sent in care of Piper- Verschelden Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, KS 66536.
