Obituary- Deiter, Betty

Mrs. Betty Ruth Deiter
MAPLE HILL – Mrs. Betty Ruth Deiter, 61, Maple Hill, was found dead Thursday at her home. Officials said she died of natural causes.

She was born Feb. 14, 1928, at her parents’ home in Westport Township near Berryton, the daughter of William and Faye McCormick Ulrey. She was graduated in 1946 from Berryton High School. She lived in the Maple Hill community most of her life and in Maple Hill the past six years.

Mrs. Deiter was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville, Ladies Auxiliary to Philip Billard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1650 and Wheathearts Square Dance club, both in Topeka, and James Elmer Romick Unit No. 130 of the American Legion Auxiliary, Maple Hill Research Club and an Extension Homemakers Unit, all at Maple Hill.

She was married to Harold M. Deiter on Sept, 29, 1947, in the Catholic Church of the Assumption at Topeka. He died May 26, 1978.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra L. Howerton, Rossville; a son, Harold M. Deiter Jr., Rossville; a grandchild; and two stepgrandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Monday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery at S. Marys. Mrs. Deiter will lie in state after noon today at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Basic Cancer Research, Division of Biology, Ackert Hall, Kansas State University, Manhattan, 66506.
