JEAN DEITER

The compassionate spirit of Jean Deiter entered eternal peace on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Midland Care Hospice of Topeka.

Jean was a longtime resident of Silver Lake. Her life was led with love and kindness through the grace of Christ.

Jean was born Feb. 6, 1933, in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Carl C. and Pauline B. Mitchell Honeycutt. Carl and Pauline moved Jean to Topeka in 1945 where she graduated at Topeka High School in 1950.

She married Robert T. (Bob) Deiter of Maple Hill in 1956 and together they raised a blessing of three children from their previous marriages and four more from their own union. They moved to the com¬munity of Silver Lake in 1958.

Jean was an active member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville for 47 years and Mother Teresa Catholic Church since 2005. She served in many capacities for both churches through the years.

She owned and operated the family farm with Bob from 1958 until his death in 1986. They owned and operated Deiter Christmas Tree Farms beginning in 1981; Jean continued until 2006. She worked part-time for the department of agriculture FSA from 1982 to 2000. Jean served eight years on Silver Lake School Board District 372. She served on Silver Lake’s City Council for 15 years and was a member of Silver Lake Senior Citizens.

Jean is survived by her children: Kay (Irv) Klinger, Fort Worth, Texas; Mike (Betty) Deiter, Silver Lake; Susan Hawkins, Lake Wabaunsee, Kan.; Teresa (Rex) Earley, Prairie Village; Bob (Jennifer) Deiter, Kansas City, Mo.; step-children Jacqueline (David) Parker, Highlands, N.C.; Cary (Vikki) Deiter, El Paso, Texas; grandchildren: Heather Brown, Kristopher, Jacob and Megan Deiter, Sarah and Zachary Hawkins, Hannah and Mitchell Earley, Daniel and Elizabeth Deiter, Kinzey Parker, Cary and Sam Deiter, Jennifer Martinek; great-grandchildren: Ethan and Madeline Cregan, Kaylee, Brody and Karys Deiter, Jenna Blad and Peyton Martinek.

Jean also leaves behind many special friends and family who blessed her life.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, Jan. 11, at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church in Topeka.
