Joseph C. DeVader
Joseph Charles DeVader, 77, rural Delia, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Community Hospital, Onaga.

He was born December 22, 1924, in Emmett, the son of Edward J. and Marie Natalie DeWilde DeVader.

Joe had lived in the Emmett community all of his life. He was reared in the Emmett community and attended Holligan School. He was a farmer and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Topeka after 33 years of service. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Emmett, a 50-year Honorary Member of Knights of Columbus Council #657 in St. Marys; a member of URW Local #307 in Topeka. He was a member of the Emmett Senior Citizens and also of the Cross Creek Ball Club.

On August 26, 1950, he married Catherine L. Martin at Rossville. She survives.

Other survivors include four sons, Larry DeVader and Dave DeVader, Topeka; Robert DeVader, St. Marys; and Gerald “Chief” DeVader, Emmett; five daughters, Edith M. Fuller, Topeka; Loretta A. Scott, Emmett; Marcia J. Wagner, Rossville, Roberta K. DeVader, St. Marys, and Ranae L. Baker, Utica; three sisters, Anna Marie Morford, Onaga, Helen Helget, Honolulu, HI, and Mary K. Berberick, Independence; four brothers, Edward J. DeVader, Emmett, Henry R. DeVader, St. Marys, Leonard DeVader, Bates City, MO, and Donald DeVader, Burlington, CO; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Lewis DeVader.

Visitation will be at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, 714 Maple, St. Marys. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday (this evening) at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Emmett.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Joseph C. DeVader Memorial Fund, or to the Kansas Crippled Children, and sent in care of the funeral home.
