Obituary- Diehl, Earl 1

EARL E. DIEHL
Earl E. Diehl, 74, Topeka, died of a heart attack Sunday, September 26, 1982, at a Topeka hospital.
He was born June 25, 1918, at Rossville, the son of Frank and Myrtle Moore Diehl, and spent his life in the Rossville and Topeka communities.
Mr. Diehl was employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company 30 years before he retired as chief clerk in the traffic department in September 1981. In 1975, he received the Goodyear Spirit Award as the year’s outstanding employee.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Merchant Marine and the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Seabrook United Church of Christ where he had been program director. He was active in Boy Scout volunteer work and had been scoutmaster of Troop 45, sponsored by Seabrook United Church of Christ. He designed the merit badge for truck transportation.
Mr. Diehl was a member of Jimmy Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion at Rossville and Post No. 1650 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Moose Lodge, and the Topeka Traffic Club, all in Topeka. He had been a volunteer at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center.
He was married to Doris Marcy October 5, 1947. She died September 8, 1977.
Survivors include three sons, Scott Diehl and Jeff Diehl, both in Eugene, Ore., and Les Diehl, Topeka; three sisters, Mrs. Ina Marney and Mrs. Ruth Martinek, both in Rossville, and Mrs. Alice Bure, Topeka; and a grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Seabrook United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Gardens west of Topeka. Mr. Diehl will lie in state until noon Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and then at the church until service time.
Relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening (Tuesday) at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Seabrook United Church of Christ, 4440 W. 19th Terr., 66604.
