Obituary- Doud, Eventus S. d.1909
E.S. Doud Dead
E.S. Doud, R.F.D. Carrier route 14, one of the old and respected citizens of Rossville, died early Monday morning from heart failure. He had been complaining at times for months past but the end came without warning. For a week prior to his death, he had not felt well enough to serve his route but was up and around all the time. At 3 o'clock Monday morning a slight struggle aroused his wife at his side and she awoke to find him dying. Medical help was hurriedly called but death came within a few minutes.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the M.E. Church conducted by Rev. J.K. Miller assisted by Rev. Woestemeyer. Beautiful flowers covered the casket and a handsome floral scroll with the words, "At Rest", was presented by the K. & L. of S. lodge. The ladies of this lodge, of which Mrs. Doud is s a member, attended in a body. The church as was crowded with sympathizing friend and neighbors.
The burial took place in the city cemetery.
Eventus S. Doud was born in Miami County, Indiana, Jan. 22, 1848, and was 61 years old at the time of his death.
At the age of 12 he moved to Kansas with his parents and has lived in and near Rossville for 40 years. He enlisted in the Union Army of the Civil War at the age of 15 years and served 2 years and 3 months received an honorable discharge.
He was a member of the M.E. Church for over 30 years. In July 1885 he was married to Miss Rose Stamp. He is survived by the wife and three children, Jessie, Ven and Eddie, one brother and three sisters. One sister and a niece residing at Kiro, Kans., were present at the funeral.
Mr. Doud had been a sufferer from heart trouble for a number of years and his sudden death was no surprise to his intimate friends. All of his family were present when death came.
