Obituary- Douglas, Bernice
Bernice Louise Douglas
Bernice Louise Douglas, 84, TopeŽka, died Sunday, May 1, 1994, at a Los Angeles hospital.
Mrs. Douglas worked 16 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. She and her family renovated the Stach School that was moved from Delia to the Kansas State Historical Museum Grounds.
She was born Sept. 13, 1909, in Delia, the daughter of John and EmŽma Chase Stach. She was graduated from Hoyt High School in 1926.
Mrs. Douglas was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Women's Lutheran Service Guild. She organized the hot lunch program at Topeka Lutheran School and had been active in Girl Scouting.
She was married to Merlin Douglas April 12, 1930, in Tonganoxie. He died Feb. 25, 1975. A son, Robert G. Douglas, died in February 1985. A granddaughter, Doireann Douglas, died in April 1966.
Survivors include a daughter, Helen Swenson, Los Angeles; four sisters, Eva Cox, Topeka, Clara Patterson, Sparrowbush, N.Y., Ruth Accolla, Seaford, N.Y., and Rose Burton, Newton; and two grandsons.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 S.W. Gage Blvd., 66604, Brewster Place Building Fund, 1205 S.W. 29th, 66611, or to the Topeka Lutheran School, 701 S.W. Roosevelt, 66606. Penwell- Gabel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
