Geneva Alice Fairbanks
Geneva Alice Fairbanks, 78, Topeka, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Lexington Park Care Facility.
She was born September 28, 1929 near Delia, the daughter of Lindsay and Emma Mullinix Keller. Mrs. Fairbanks was an insulin dependent diabetic since the age of five, and lost her sight when she was 34.
Geneva attended grade school at Neive School near Delia and graduated from Delia High School in 1946. She attended Washburn University and Kansas State College. Mrs. Fairbanks taught at High Prairie Grade School for one year. She graduated from Stewart's Beauty Academy in Topeka in 1957, and operated Geneva's Town and Country Beauty Salon in Delia. She had taught Sunday school for many years. Geneva authored four books: Diabetes, Tragedy or Triumph (her autobiography) and Precious Keller Memories books I and II and Hugh Fairbanks "This Is Your Life".
Mrs. Fairbanks was preceded in death by a son, Philip Douglas in January 1952 and by two brothers, Philip and John Vernon Keller.
She married Hugh Leo Fairbanks on June 18, 1948 in Topeka. They had lived in Emmett, Delia, Kansas City, Ozawkie, Sunflower, Kearney, MO, Rossville and Topeka. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Douglas Eugene (Donola) Fairbanks, Delia; a daughter Cherrie (Norm) Argabright, Ida Grove, IA; two sisters Wanda Parr and Naomi Sumner both of Topeka; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was served faithfully by her Seeing Eye dogs, Pinta, Wendy, Kim and Venus.
Mrs. Fairbanks bequeathed her body to the University of Kansas for medical study.
Memorial services will be at 6:30 P.M. Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Rossville Christian Church. Inurnment will be at a later date at St. Clere Cemetery, Emmett.
