Obituary- Gentry, Melba 1

Melba Marguerite Gentry
ROSSVILLE — Melba Marguerite Gentry, Rossville, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1993, at a Rossville nursing home.

Mrs. Gentry had worked at the F.W. Woolworth store in Topeka and HyKlas Grocery Store in Rossville. She also owned and operated the Cedar Drive-In at Rossville.

She was born April 22, 1906, at Beloit, the daughter of Zackary and Emily Blodgett Huffman. She lived in Simpson until 1947 when she moved to Rossville.

Mrs. Gentry was a member of Beloit Christian Church and a past member of Amyrillis Chapter No. 321 of the Order of Eastern Star and Jimmy Lillard Unit No. 31 of the American Legion Auxiliary, both in Rossville.

She was married to James Roy Gentry Nov. 24, 1926, at Simpson. He died Sept. 19, 1957.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Dick and Barbara Dudney, both of Rossville; two sons, Bobby Gentry and Billy Gentry, both of Rossville; two sisters, Marjorie Williams, Kansas City, Kan., and June Wilkins, Albany, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Rossville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. Gentry will lie in state after 3 p.m. today at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys where family and friends will meet from 7 until 8 p.m. today. She later will lie in state an hour before service time Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Rossville Christian Church or Rossville United Methodist Church Building Fund.
