Hugh L. "Jiggs" Fairbanks
Rossville-Hugh L. "Jiggs" Fairbanks passed away, Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at the St. Marys Community Hospital.
He was born October 23, 1926 at Emmett the son of Frank and Rena Ethel Blaylock Fairbanks. He grew up in the Emmett community and served in the United States Navy during WWII.
Hugh retired from the Federal Government as a Livestock Inspector. Through the years Hugh enjoyed fishing, metal detecting, walking and picking black walnuts that he shared with all he knew. He attended the Rossville Christian Church and was a member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville.
On June 18, 1948 he was united in marriage to Geneva A. Keller at Topeka. She preceded him in death on March 27, 2008. They resided in Rossville for over 30 years before moving to Atria Hearthstone in Topeka. For the past year Hugh had been a resident of the St. Marys Manor Nursing Home. A son, Philip Douglas also preceded him in death in January 1952, along with his brothers, George, Joe, Douglas, Charles, Frank and Gerald Fairbanks and sisters Ruth and Rena.
Survivors include a son, Douglas (Donola) Fairbanks, Delia; a daughter, Cherrie (Norm) Argabright, Topeka; his sister, Doris Lange, Apple Valley, CA; grandchildren, Holly Wehner, Brad Fairbanks, Ryan Fairbanks, Jason DeBacker & Travis DeBacker and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Fairbanks bequeathed his body to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Memorial services will be at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Rossville Christian Church. Interment will be at a later date in the St. Clere Cemetery, Emmett.
