Garland Gideon
MAPLE HILL — Garland R. Gideon, 89, Maple Hill, died Friday, May 19, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Gideon owned and operated Gideon Sawmill near Paxico until 1992. He also raised registered Hereford cattle his entire life.

He was born Sept. 22, 1910, at Emmett, the son of Oscar and Blanche Isnogle Gideon.

Mr. Gideon was a member of Alma Masonic Lodge No. 161 AF&AM and was past master of the Maple Hill Lodge before it merged with the Alma lodge. He was district deputy of the M.W. Grand Lodge of Kansas, a member and past patron of Loyal Chapter No. 176 of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of all Scottish Rite bodies, and a member of the Past Matrons and Past Patrons club.

He married Viola F. Kovar on March 3, 1936, in Utica, Neb. She preceded him in death July 7, 1998.

Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Dick, Rossville; a son, Arnold L. Gideon, Paxico; two sisters, Serita M. Whaley, Paxico, and Barbara Luna, Topeka; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Parker-Price Mortuary in Topeka. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka. Mr. Gideon will lie in state after 2 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, where relatives and friends will meet from 8 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Loyal Chapter No. 176 of the Order of Eastern Star, Silver Lake, and sent in care of June Blush, 518 Skylab, Silver Lake, 66539, or in care of the mortuary to be designated later.
