Garland R. Gideon
Garland R. Gideon, 89, rural Paxico, died Friday, May 19, 2000, at his home.

He was born September 22, 1910, in Emmett, the son of Oscar and Blanche Isnogle Gideon.

He was a member of Alma Masonic Lodge #161, AF&AM, and was a Past Master of the Maple Hill Lodge which merged with the Alma Masonic Lodge. He held several offices, including District Deputy of the M.W. Grand Lodge of Kansas. He was a member of Loyal Chapter #176, Order of the Eastern Star, and was a Past Patron. He was also a member of all Scottish Rite Bodies and a member of the Past Matrons and Past Patrons Club. He spent his lifetime raising registered Hereford cattle and was a life member of the American Hereford Association. In later years, he owned and operated Gideon Sawmill on his property near Paxico, retiring in 1992.

On March 3, 1936, he married Viola F. Kovar in Utica, NE. She died July 7, 1998.

Surviving him are a daughter, Dianne Dick, Rossville; a son, Arnold L. Gideon, Paxico; two sisters, Serita M. Whaley, Paxico, and Barbara Luna, Topeka; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family received friends from 8 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Parker-Price Mortuary. His service was at 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel, with Masonic burial rites conducted by Alma Lodge #161 AF&AM of Alma in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to Loyal Chapter #176, OrŽder of the Eastern Star, Silver Lake and sent in care of June Blush, 518 Skylab, Silver Lake 66539; or to Parker-Price Mortuary to be designated later.
