Viola Kovar Gideon
Viola Kovar Gideon, 82, Paxico, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at her home near Paxico.
She was born August 19, 1915, in Delia, the daughter of Joseph and Fannie Balusek Kovar.
She moved to her present home in the spring of 1943, where she engaged in farming and raised turkeys and registered Hereford cattle.
Mrs. Gideon as a 50-year member of Loyal Chapter No. 176, Order of the Eastern Star. She served as Worthy Matron and held numerous other offices of Maple Hill Chapter No. 308, O.E.S. She was Past District Aide of District 20 of the Grand Chapter of Kansas, Order of the Eastern Star in 1956. She was a member of Past Matrons and Past Patrons; and District Aides. She was a member of the Vera EHU and had been a 4-H Club Youth Leader in Jackson County and at Maple Hill in Wabaunsee County for many years. Mrs. Gideon had numerous hobbies — genealogy, craft work, flower gardening, and traveling with her husband and family throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
She was married to Garland R. Gideon, rural Emmett, on March 3, at Utica, NE. He survives.
Other survivors include a son, Arnold L. Gideon, Paxico; a daughter, Dianne Dick, Rossville; six grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.
Her service was Friday at the Parker-Price Mortuary, Topeka, followed by Eastern Star services conducted by Loyal Chapter No. 176, Order of the Eastern Star. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
