Obituary- Flanary, Harold
HAROLD M. “IRISH” FLANARY
Harold M. “Irish” Flanary, 87, St. Marys, died late Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at his home.
He was born Sept. 14, 1919, near Soldier, the son of Barney M. and Elva M. Perry Flanary.
As a child he lived in Emmett, Delia and St. Clair. He attended Little Cross Creek and Long Branch Schools. He and his family moved to the Maple Hill community in 1928 and he attended school in and near Maple Hill. In 1937 he graduated from Maple Hill High School. After school he farmed and served in the United States Air Corps during World War II from 1942 until 1946.
Mr. Flanary was employed 31 years at KFU Hybrids and the Farmers Union Co-op in St. Marys, retiring in 1981. He later worked several years for the City of St. Marys. He was a member of the American Legion at Maple Hill and a Charter Member of the VFW in St. Marys.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Barney Flanary and two sisters, Irene Ames and Marie Sack.
On May 10, 1947, he was united in marriage to Maxine Rezac in Topeka. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son Richard and his wife Claudeane Flanary, St. Marys; a daughter, Janice Flanary, Manhattan; two sisters, Frieda Kimble, Maple Hill and Lois Clark, Topeka and a grandson Harold Lee Flanary, St. Marys.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 10 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys.
Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Riley County Humane Society or to the Topeka Rescue Mission and sent in care of the funeral home.
