Obituary- Griswold, Edgar 1

E. G. Griswold
Services for Edgar G. Griswold, 93, of Rossville, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Rossville Methodist Church with burial in Rossville Cemetery. He died Friday at his home.
Born May 23, 1870 in Santa Rosa, Calif., Mr. Griswold moved with his parents to Illinois in 1871 and to Kansas in 1874, settling near Solomon.
He was graduated from Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia in 1894 and taught school a number of years. He had farmed in the Rossville community since 1902.
Mr. Griswold was a member of Rossville Methodist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Nettie Griswold of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Wayne Lyon of Newton; two sons, Leslie H. Griswold of Shawnee, Okla., and Sherwin B. Griswold of Newton; a brother, Fred A. Griswold, of San Diego, Calif., and eight grandchildren.
Parker Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
E. G. Griswold Dies at Age 93
Edgar G. Griswold, a longtime resident of Rossville died at 3:10 p.m. at his home at the age of 93 years. He was born at Santa Rosa, California, May 23, 1870. In 1874 he moved with his parent to Kansas settling near Solomon where he grew to manhood.
In 1894 he graduated from Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia. He spent a number of years of his early life teaching school and in 1902 moved his family to Rossville where he engaged in general farming until his death. He also took an interest in civic and public affairs of the community, serving in various offices. He served six years as Mayor of the town and was elected a number of times as Councilman. He served several terms as a member of both the grade and high school boards and took an active part in organizing the Rossville Rural High School district.
He was a member of the Methodist Church and took an active part in church and Sunday School.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Nettie Griswold of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Wayne Lyon of Newton, Kansas; two sons; Leslie H. of Shawnee Oklahoma; Sherwin B. of Newton, Kansas; one brother, Fred A. Griswold of San Diego, California, and eight grandchildren.
Services were held in the Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Don Jones officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Don Berkey, soloist, with Mrs. Joe Campbell at the organ.
Pallbearers were Ralph Page, Homer Reid, LaVerne Spears, Joe Gresser, L.B. Crow, and G. P. Stumbaugh. Interment was in Rossville cemetery.
