Miriam A. Franklin
Miriam A. Franklin, 97, Topeka, died Tuesday, July 21, 1992, at a Topeka retirement center.
Miss Franklin taught one year in an elementary school in South Dakota. She later taught 17 years in Grove City College, Grove City, Pa.., then at Washburn University six years. She taught three years at the College of Guam on the Island of Guam before she retired and returned to Topeka.
She wrote Rehearsal, a college textbook published by Prentice-Hall, Inc., that now is in its sixth edition.
She was born October 3, 1894, on a small farm near Rossville, the daughter of Joseph and Lucy Kunkel Franklin. She attended a rural elementary school through the eighth grade, then Baker Academy at Baldwin for four years. She at¬tended Baker University three years, then Washburn College in Topeka, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She attended Columbia University in New York City one year, then attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., where she earned a Master of Arts degree.
Miss Franklin was a member of the Central Congregational Church and, at different times, taught first and third grade Sunday school classes there. She also had worked in the Women’s Fellowship and was chairman of the Outreach committee at the church.
Survivors include three nephews and five nieces
Services were Friday afternoon in Central Congregational Church.
Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
