Leslie G. Hallmark
ST. MARYS — Leslie G. Hallmark, 70, St. Marys, died Tuesday, May 7,1996, at a Kansas City, Mo., hospital.

Mr. Hallmark was a retired teacher. He taught at the high school level for 31 years and had taught 18 years in the Kaw Valley School District No. 321, 13 years as an art and mathematics teacher at Rossville High School. He earlier had worked for the U.S. government as an ammunition inspector at Texarkana, Texas. He served as a gunner's mate on merchant ships during World War II.

He was born Aug. 15, 1925, near Blue Mound, the son of Elmer and Jennie June Johnson Hallmark. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Kansas in 1954. He had lived the past three winters at Citrus Valley R.V. Park at McAllen, Texas.

Mr. Hallmark was a member of educational organizations, the United Methodist Church and a life member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion at Rossville.

He was married to Dorothy H. Kalb on Aug. 25, 1948, at Baldwin City. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, David G. Hallmark, Houston, and Alan B. Hallmark, Richmond, Va.; his mother, Jennie Johnson Thompson, Overbrook; a sister, Irma Fine, Lawrence; and five grandchildren.

Mr. Hallmark was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Hallmark, July 25, 1949.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home at St. Marys. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hallmark Scholarship Fund at Rossville High School for college-bound graduating seniors and sent in care of the funeral home.
