Obituary- Hards, Harvey
Harvey L. Hards
HIAWATHA — Harvev L. Hards, 85, Hiawatha, died Thursday at a Hiawatha hospital after becoming ill at his home earlier Thursday.
He was born April 23, 1896, in Missouri, the son of Charles and Laura Lane Hards, and came to Jackson County with his parents at an early age.
He moved to Brown County in 1929 and to Hiawatha in 1934. He later lived in Yakima, Wash., for 10 years before he returned to Hiawatha.
Mr. Hards was a carpenter in Hiawatha for many years.
He married Maude Marie Taylor Oct. 6, 1918, in Topeka. She died Aug. 26, 1978.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Lucille Winters, Hiawatha, Mrs. Wilma Carter, Wichita, Mrs. Bonnie Hossfeld, 10434 S.W. 61st, Topeka, Mrs. Bettie Irving, Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Barbara Richey, Falls City, Neb.; three sons, Elmer Hards, Vancouver, Wash., Delmar Hards, Seattle, and Bob Hards, 2852 Plass, Topeka; two sisters, Mrs. Esther Mansfield, Rossville, and Mrs. Mary Darting, Paradise, Calif.; three brothers, Leo Hards, 1215 Huntoon, Topeka, Chester Hards, 1508 E. 4th, Topeka, and Raymond Hards, in Kansas; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Casselman-Meek Funeral Home, Hiawatha. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha. Mr. Hards will lie in state until service time at the funeral home.
