Alberta P. Harris
Alberta Patricia Harris, 90, St. Marys, died Thursday, January 1, 1998, at a Rossville nursing home.

Mrs. Harris worked for the United Fruit Company in Cristobal, in the Panama Canal Zone, and later was a clerk for the Panama Canal Company. She also had worked for police departments in Florida and in California, and she was a civilian employee for die U.S. Navy at Treasure Island. She was a medical transcriptionist for the Veterans Affairs Hospital at Martinez, CA, and for a physician in private practice in Antioch, CA, until she retired.

She was born March 14, 1907, in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Hugh Vincent and Selma Louise Augusta Klitsch Powers. She was raised and attended school in the Panama Canal Zone. She lived in St Petersburg, FL, for 43 years and then in several communities in California. She lived in St. Marys for 10 years before she moved to Rossville in May 1996.

Mrs. Harris was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church, St. Marys Senior Citizens and the Tuesday Afternoon Bridge Club in St. Marys.

She married Homer Roy Harris on March 16, 1929. He died March 8, 1945.

Survivors include three daughters, Anita H. Janssen, St. Marys, Louise H. Bradshaw, Antioch, C A, , and Marion H. Buol, Petaluma, CA; 12 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Her service was at 10:00 am. Monday at the St. Marys United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery in St. Marys. Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys, was in charge of arrangements. Friends and relatives met Sunday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Marys United Methodist Church, the St. Marys Senior Citizens, the American Heart Association, or to the charity of the donor’s choice and sent in care of the funeral home.
