Obituary- Hartzell, Cora

Death of Mrs. Cora Hartzell
Seldom has our little town been shocked as it was at the sudden death of Mrs. Cora A. Hartzell, the young wife of Leroy P. Hartzell. She retired late Saturday night, apparently in perfect health, but when Leroy awoke at five o'clock on Sunday morning she was unconscious and died at half past ten that night.

She was born near Rossville, Ks., November 17, 1879, and has always lived in this community. She was married March 18, 1903. Her married life, though so short, was one of supreme happiness, and afflicted husband, parents and brothers, have the deepest sympathies of the entire community.

The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning. The large audience assembled to pay their last respects, testified to the love and esteem which the community bore her. The services were conducted by the Rev. H.L. Nelson, Pastor of the Presbyterian church, of which she was an earnest and consistent member. The Pastor was assisted by the Rev. Mr. Otto, Pastor of the Methodist church As a text the minister used the appropriate word of the Psalmist, "Be still and know that I am God."

The floral offerings were beautiful and elaborate. In addition to those made by the immediate relatives, there was one by the Sabbath School, placed upon the casket. On an easel at the side of the pulpit was a large C. E. The C mad of white and the E with the C made of red flowers. This was a tribute from the Christian Endeavor Society of which she was an active member. Her vacant seat in the choir was draped in mourning.

We shall miss her. One teacher has gone to their reward; one voice of the choir has been silenced; one active Endeavourer has fulfilled her pledge; one sweet soul will move among us no more, for she is gone. The entire community moves beneath a pall. Her life was brief, and like the snow flake, she left her mark but not a stain.
