W. W. Harvey
Former Chief Justice W. W. Harvey of Topeka, who served 2 years on the Kansas Supreme court, collapsed suddenly at his home Saturday and died en route to a hospital. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Born November 21, 1869, in Madison county, Ky., he moved to Shawnee county with his parents in 1877 and the family settled on a farm near Berryton. He was graduated from Emporia State Teachers college in 1896. After teaching in Kansas rural schools, including Rossville, five years, he was superintendent of Ellsworth city schools two years. He entered the law profession after studying privately and was admitted to the Kansa Bar in 1898.

He set up a practice at Ashland in 1906 and was chosen Clark county attorney the same year, serving one term. In 1917 he began the first of three successive terms as Clark county’s representative in the Legislature and was elected speaker of the house in 1921. He was elected to the Supreme court in 1922 and served 10 years as Chief Justice. He retired March 1, 1956.

His wife, the late Mrs. Marie A. Harvey, died in September 1952. He is survived by a son, Howard S. Harvey of Chicago; a daughter, Helen Righter of the home; three grandsons, William B. Harvey, James H. Harvey and William H. Righter; two great-granddaughters; a nephew and two nieces.

Services were Monday noon at Wall-Diffenderfer chapel in Topeka. Burial was in Ridgeway cemetery at Carbondale.
