Jean Hays
SILVER LAKE—Jean E. Hays, 74, Silver Lake, died Friday, Jan. 12,2001, at a St. Marys hospital.

Mrs. Hays had been a physical therapist in hospitals and nursing homes, and she was a nursing home administrator in Oakley for several years.

She was born July 15, 1926, in Oakley, the daughter of George “Hully” and Helen Israel Newcom. She was raised in Oakley and graduated from Oakley High School. She later graduated from The University of Kansas. She moved to Silver lake in November 1998.

Mrs. Hays was a member of Rossville United Methodist Church, the PEO Sisterhood, the American Physical Therapist Association, American Association of Retired Persons and The University of Kansas Alumni Association.

She married Earl H. Hays. They were divorced.

Survivors include a son, Patrick A. Hays, Ottawa; a daughter. Michelle Prescott, Rossville; a sister, Eileen Gillett, Colorado Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hays was preceded in death by a daughter, Colleen Finger, in May 1987, and two grandchildren, Joshua Hays, in July 1980, and Kassey Hays, in September 2000.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Rossville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. Hays will lie in state after 2 p.m. Monday at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville, where visitation will be tram 7 to 8 p.m.

Contributions may be made to the Jean E. Hays Memorial Fund, sent in care of the funeral chapel.
