Jean E. Hays

Jean E. Hays, 74, Silver Lake, died Friday, January 12, 2001, at the St. Marys Hospital.

She was born July 15, 1926, in Oakley, the daughter of George “Hully” and Helen Israel Newcom.

She was raised in the Oakley community and was graduated from Oakley High School, and later from the University of Kansas. She was a physical therapist in hospitals and nursing homes, and served as a nursing home administrator at Oakley for several years. She had lived in Topeka since the early 1970s, before moving to Silver Lake in November 1998. She attended the Rossville United Methodist Church, a member of the P.E.O., and the American Physical Therapist Association, A ARP, and she was also a member of the University of Kansas Alumni Association.

She married Earl H. Hays; they divorced.

Surviving her are a son, Patrick A. Hays, Ottawa; a daughter, Michelle Prescott, Rossville; a sister, Eileen Gillett, Colorado Springs, CO; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Colleen Finger, in May 1987, and two grandchildren, Joshua Hays, in July 1980, and Kassey Hays in September 2000.

Her service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday (this afternoon) at the Rossville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Rossville Cemetery. Visitation was Monday evening at Piper Funeral Chapel, Rossville.
