Donald L. Hladky Sr.
Donald L. Hladky Sr., 79, of Topeka, died July 14, 2007. He was born on February 14, 1928 in Delia, Kansas the son of Charles and Anna (Macha) Hladky. After graduation he farmed for four years, before serving in the Army from 1951 to 1952.

He was employed for Goodyear for 42 years before retiring in 1991. Don was a Union Steward on the Executive Board and Secretary of the All Employee’s Club. After retiring, he joined the Goodyear Retiree’s Club and served as President in 1993 and 1999.

Don was in Scouting for 21 years from 1965 to 1986, where he earned a Cub Master’s Key, Scout Master’s Key, Commissioner’s Key, a Wood Badge and a St. George Award. He served as President of the Over 55 Club for two years. He and his wife were volunteers at Let’s Help from 1991 to 2007. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Don married Sophia A. Kaberline on October 24, 1953. He is survived by his wife of the home, two daughters, Juanita Wymore of Topeka, Mary Dreasher and husband Mike of Topeka, two sons, Donald L. Hladky Jr. and wife Susan ofWentzville, Mo., and John Hladky of Topeka, and seven grandchildren; Hellen, James, Venona “Noni”, James Richard “J.R.”, Matthew, Danielle, and Aubrey. He is also survived by two brothers, Loren Hladky of Topeka and Leo Ladd of Ohio, and by two sisters Betty Kaberline of Topeka and Maxine Grimes of Norfolk, VA.

Mr. Hladky will lie in state on Sunday after 2:00 p.m. at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. and a Parish Rosary at 6:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Heartland Hospice, or to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 West Sixth St., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
