Gladys Holz
ROSSVILLE —Gladys I. Miles Holz, 79, Rossville, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at a St. Marys nursing home.
She owned and operated the Hotel Cate in Osage City with her first husband, Francis Miles. She later worked at Shawgo’s Clothing and Jack Anderson’s Shoe Store, both in Osage City. She also had worked for Jostens American Yearbook in Topeka for 15 years before retiring.
She was born Sept. 25, 1920, in Topeka, the daughter of David and Mary Whitly Hawkins.
She grew up in Topeka, Lyndon and Osage City and graduated from Osage City High School In 1938.
Mrs. Holz was a member of the Osage City United Methodist Church, Osage City, arid the Jimmie Lillard American Legion Post No. 31 Auxiliary, Rossville.
She married Francis Miles on Jan. 29, 1940, at Osage City. He died in 1979. She married Wilmont F. ‘'Bill" Holz on Aug. 12, 1987, at Miami, Okla. He died June 22, 1999. She also was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Miles, in 1994, and a grandson, Marc Smitha, in 1985.
Survivors include a son, Bill Miles, Burlington; a daughter, Linda Smitha, Manhattan; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Piper Funeral Chapel, Rossville. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday in the Osage City Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the Jim-mie Lillard American Legion Post No. 31 Auxiliary, Rossville, sent in care of the funeral home.
