Obituary- Hoobler, Dwight 2

Dwight R. Hoobler
Dwight Rolland Hoobler, 79, Rossville, died Wednesday, January 3, 2001, at Rossville Valley Manor.

He was born October 26, 1921, in Madison, KS, the son of Vern P. and Mary Myrtle Rake Hoobler.

Dwight had lived in the Maple Hill and Rossville communities most of his life. He was graduated from St. Marys High School. He had worked for Kansas Power and Light for many years and later for the City of Topeka in the Water Pollution Control Division. He served in the United States Army 6th Division 63rd Infantry for three years, of which 27 months were in the South Pacific. He earned a Bronze Star from New Guinea and a Purple Heart from his wounds in the Philippines. He was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church, Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville, a 50-year member of Lake Lodge No. 51 in Silver Lake, and Loyal Chapter No. 16 of the Eastern Star in Silver Lake, and a member of VFW Post 1650 in Topeka.

On January 12, 1947, he married Margie Lillard in Rossville. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, David Hoobler, address unavailable, and Don Hoobler, Pittsburg, KS; a sister, Mildred Ronsse, St. Marys; four brothers, Lloyd Hoobler and Everett Hoobler, St. Marys, Forrest Hoobler, Topeka, and Lester Arlan Hoobler, Seattle, WA; and a granddaughter.

A family visitation was held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Rossville United Methodist Church. His service was at 10 am. Saturday at the church. Burial, under direction of Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville, was in the Rossville Cemetery. Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion conducted a graveside service.
