Obituary- Hoobler, Lloyd 2
Lloyd A. Hoobler
ST. MARYS — Lloyd A. Hoobler, 87, St. Marys, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Rossville Manor.
He was born Nov. 4, 1917, in Taylor, Neb., the son of Vern P. and Mary Myrtle Rake Hoobler. He graduated from Maple Hill High School and had lived most of his life in the St. Marys community.
Mr. Hoobler served in the Army in Alaska during World War II. He was an industrial electrician in Topeka and St. Marys for many years. He was a volunteer fireman in St. Marys for 25 years and served as assistant fire chief.
Mr. Hoobler was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church and served on its building committee when Hammond Hall and the new church were built. He was a member of Hoy-Heim American Legion Post in St. Marys. He was a member of Railroader Camping Club in Topeka and a former member of the Pottawatomie Lodge in St. Marys.
He married Dorothy Newcomer on Jan. 13, 1945, in Uniontown, Pa. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Susan Ottman, Topeka; a son, Dr. Ray Hoobler, McDonough, Ga.; a sister, Mildred Ronsse, St. Marys; three brothers, Foiest Hoobler, Topeka, Everett Hoobler, St. Marys, and Lester A. Hoobler, Seattle; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hoobler was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Raymond and Dwight Hoobler.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Marys United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in St. Marys. Mr. Hoobler will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Marys United Methodist Church and sent in care of the funeral home.
