Robert Hejtmanek
Robert Keith Hejtmanek, 76, Topeka, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Hejtmanek worked for Monroe Systems for Business for 35 years. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a gunner on a B-24 bomber in the 15th Air Force. He flew 50 missions over Europe and was decorated with the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters and the unit citation.

He was born July 2, 1925, near Delia, the son of Charles and Dulcia Rendle Hejtmanek. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1943 and later attended Washburn University.

Mr. Hejtmanek was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a life member of Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion.

He also was active in the Sertoma Club, Kaw Valley Wood Carvers and Saw Dusters. He was a former member of the Top-Kan Twirler’s Square Dance Club.

He married Bernice Krause on Nov. 30, 1946. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Danton C. Hejtmanek, Topeka; two brothers, C. Clayton Hejtmanek, Topeka, and Donald Hejtmanek, Burlington, Mass.; a grandson; two stepgranddaughters; and two stepgreat-grandsons.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Hejtmanek will lie in state after noon today at Penweli-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, where visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.
