Obituary- James, Sarah 1
Mrs. Robt. James Died Last Night
Mrs. Robt. James’ death at 11:30 last night was very unexpected and was a shock to the many friends of the family. Death was due to heart trouble.
Mr. James was away from home having accompanied his mother, Mrs. Amanda James to the Fred Franklin home at Gueda Springs.
Mrs. James had been subject to attacks from her heart but usually recovered quickly. Yesterday evening she became ill after having done her usual day’s work, but did not respond to the usual treatment for similar attacks and expired before midnight.
Pending the return home of Mr. James the funeral arrangements have not been arranged at the time we go to press.
Mrs. James is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Sommers, of Hutchinson, and Miss Orah James, and one brother, W.W. Page, of Silver Lake township.
Sarah Alice Page was born Nov. 22, 1865, in Iowa county, Iowa, and moved to Kansas in 1878 with her parents and settled at Silver Lake, Kans., for a short time, then went to Ness county, Kansas, for about two years, then back to Silver Lake, and later to Rossville, where she resided until her death Dec. 5. She was married to Robt. D. James the fourth day of April 1886.
To this union were born 7 children, five of whom have gone on before and two still living, Mrs. Leo Sommers of Canton, Kans., and Miss Orah James still at the home of her parents.
Mrs. James united with the U.B. church a short time after marriage and has lived a good Christian life ever since. She died Dec. 5, 1917, at her home in Rossville township, age 52 years, 18 days.
The funeral services were held from the Olive Branch, U.B. church, Dec. 8, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Manion preached the funeral sermon from 1 Sam 20-3. “There is but a Step between me and Death.”
