Obituary- Johnson, Timothy

Mrs. Augusta McCoid came home from Avon Park, Fla., Tuesday, on the sorrowful mission of bringing home, for burial, the body of her aged father, Mr. T. R. Johnson, who died last Saturday.


T. R. JOHNSON

Timothy Reuben Johnson, 97, Civil war veteran and prominent farmer near Silver Lake for' many years, died at his winter home in Avon Park, Fla. Saturday.

Mr. Johnson was born in Chautauqua, N. Y. January 29, 1832 and moved with his parents to Washtenau county, Mich. in 1836. Ten years afterward the family moved to Porter County, Ind. He moved to his farm near Silver Lake about 40 years ago. The last few years of his life were spent at his winter home in Avon Park, Fla.

He had been a member of the Methodist church since he was 19 years old. He also was a member of the G. A. R., the I. O. O. F. and Rebekah lodges.

He was married to Miss Mary Dille February 22, 1852. They were the parents of seven children, three of whom survive, Minnard T. Johnson, Avon Park, Fla.; Mrs. Augusta McCoid, Silver Lake; and Miss Effie E. Johnson, Topeka. He also leaves 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. His wife died January 12, 1912.

The body arrived in Topeka Tuesday noon and laid in state at the Shellabarger chapel until the funeral service in the Silver Lake Methodist church at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon. Burial was in Silver Lake cemetery.
