J. Earl Barney, Sr.
J. Earl Barney, Sr., 88, Topeka, died Thursday, April 27, 1989, at Rossville Valley Manor.
Mr. Barney spent many years in the automobile and real estate businesses in Topeka.
He was born April 5, 1901, in the Grove area north of Silver Lake, the son of J. William and Valinda Wyatt Barney. He lived most of his life in Shawnee County.
He spent many winters in West Palm Beach, Fla., where he was president of Kansas Society of Palm Beaches.
Mr. Barney was a member of Lowman United Methodist Church and was active in the Sunday school at the church. He also was a 50-year member of Herperian Lodge No. Ill, AF&AM, in Rossville.
He was married to Irene Franz on August 10, 1921, at Topeka. She died April 3, 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. James Earl Barney, Jr., Avon, Conn., and Dr. Duane Barney, Bethesda, Md.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were at 10 a.m. MonŽday in Parker-Price Mortuary with the Rev. Larry Keller officiating. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery. The family received friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
