HELEN G. JEFFRIES WILT
KAMPSCHROEDER
Helen G. Jeffries Wilt Kampschroeder, 92, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005 at her home in Rossville.

She was born June 21, 1913 the only daughter of Isham and Rozella Maddox Jeffries at Silver Lake. She attended school in both Silver Lake and Topeka, graduating from Silver Lake High School. She became a registered nurse after graduating from Jane C. Stormont School of Nursing in 1934.

During her years of nursing she worked as a private nurse for a number of years and had worked at the Topeka Presbyterian Manor and Goodyear Tire. While in Rossville she assisted the two resident doctors, Smith and Miller with home care cases.

She was married to Roy Wilt on Feb. 2, 1937 and lived in Rossville 28 years. To this union were born two children, Lynda Ann and Robert R. Wilt. Robert was killed in a truck accident in 1974.

She married Clyde H. Kampschroeder and resided in Lawrence for 25 plus years. In 1992 he was killed in a tractor accident. Helen returned to Rossville to live in 1994.

She was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church and the women’s group at the church and had worked in the children’s department. She was a lifetime member of the OES with membership in the Amaryllis Chapter No. 321 Rossville, which combined with Loyal Chapter No. 176 Silver Lake. She was a former member of the Ladies Literary Club in Rossville, chairman of the committee to aid the Salvation Army for 14 years, a Girl Scout leader, 4-H leader and a member of the several bridge groups in Rossville for 35 years. During her years in Lawrence she was a member of the Riverside E.H.U., county extension council, Family Resource Management in Douglas County, KANWAKA Museum, a life member of the Lecompton Historical Society, librarian of the Gem and Mineral Society and played bridge with the Elks Ladies, American Legion Auxiliary and a number of other clubs.

Survivors include her daughter, Lynda Ann Wood, Rossville; three grandchildren, Bradley Wood, Topeka, Douglas Wood, Rossville, and Tracy Lee Ann Higinbotham, Oskaloosa; and a great-grandson, Kyle Higinbotham.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 8 at the Rossville United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Rossville Cemetery.
