David Edwin Karnowski
EMMETT — David Edwin Karnowski, 76, Emmett, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, at a Topeka hospital.

Mr. Karnowski worked for the Boeing Company, Wichita, as a foreman from
1941 until 1944. He had been a farmer and cattleman for the past 50 years in Emmett.

He was born Nov. 11,1920, in Vinita, Okla., the son of Peter and Maybelle Weis Karnowski. He grew up in the Paxico community

and graduated from Paxico High School.
He attended Kansas State University on a track scholarship and majored in agriculture. Mr. Karnowski served in the Army Air Corps 4132nd unit in World War II. He taught agriculture to returning veterans in the St. Marys community.

He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Emmett, and formerly a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Karnowski served on the USD 321 Board of Education for eight years. In his retirement, he was an active performer in the Kaw Valley Chapter of the Old Time Fiddler, Picker and Singer Organization.

He married Louise Frances Blanchat on July 25,1946, in Emerald. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996. She survives.

Other survivors include eight daughters, Marie Stutterheim, Weston, Mo., Lucy Berringer, Terrell, Texas, Jan Eichman, Wamego, Marilyn Immenschuch, St. Marys, Marcia Stevenson, Hartford, Carolyn Bertels, Troy, Vikki Boatwright, Meriden, and Jean Miller, Kansas City, Mo.; six sons, David Karnowski, Wamego, Mike Karnowski, Baker, Ore., Bill Karnowski, Wamego, Leon Karnowski, Topeka, Richard Karnowski, Emmett, and Andrew Karnowski, Overland Park; three brothers, James B. Karnowski, Texarkana, Ark., Charles J. Karnowski, Kansas City, Kan., and Philip Karnowski, Wamego; two sisters, Mary Dinkel, Topeka, and Virginia Billings, Bonner Springs; 39 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Marys. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Newbury. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Marys. Memorials can be made to the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Emmett and sent in care of the funeral home.
