Obituary- Kassebaum, Augustus 1


GUS KASSEBAUM
Gus Kassebaum, the son of Henry and Mary Kassebaum, was born in Indiana, July 26, 1869 and died January 16, 1959, after a long illness at the age of 89 years. When he was a small child, his parents came to Kansas and settled on the farm north of Rossville where he grew to manhood.

As a young man, he united with the Presbyterian church and was an active member, having served the church in many capacities until the beginning of his last illness.

In 1896 he was married to Lulu James of Rossville and they moved to his farm south of Rossville where he engaged in farming for many years. He also served as a director of the Peoples State Bank for a number of years. In 1926 he retired from active farming and moved to Rossville where they have since made their home. They observed their sixty-second wedding anniversary September 30, 1958.

He is survived by his wife, two brothers, J. B. Kassebaum, Kansas City, Missouri, W. F. Kassebaum, Arcadia, California; two sisters. Mrs. Katherine Oliver, Santa Barbara, California, Miss Emma Kassebaum, Seattle, Washington, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church at 2:30, January 19, with Reverend Don Evans and Reverend Robert Boughton conducting the services. Soloist was Mrs. Don Berkey and Mrs. Lulu Hill, Organist. Honorary pallbearers were Mr. Clarence Gresser, Mr. L. B. Crow, Mr. E. G. Griswold, Mr. Fred McCollough, Mr. Frank Dannefer and Mr. Emil Kovar. Active pallbearers were Mr. Howard French, Mr. Joe Gresser, Mr. Marvin Davis, Mr. William Hesse, Mr. Junior Dannefer and Mr. Everett Hoobler.

Services for Gus Kassebaum, 89, was held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Rossville Presbyterian church with burial in Rossville cemetery. He died Friday in a Topeka hospital.

Born July 26. 1869, at Olean, Ind. he had lived in this community most of his life. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lulu Kassebaum: two brothers, J. B. Kassebaum of Kansas City and W. F. Kassebaum of Pasadena, California: two sisters, Katherine Oliver of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Emma Kassebaum of Seattle. Wash.
