Obituary- Kelsey, Richard 2

Richard Kelsey
Richard Dean Kelsey, 73, formerly of Rossville, died Wednesday, Dec. 6,2000, at a Topeka hospital.

Mr. Kelsey farmed with his two brothers in the Rossville area. He also was a licensed minister with the Church of the Nazarene.

He was born Sept. 27,1927, in Topeka, the son of Iva M. Carothers and Scott E. Kelsey. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1945, and from Kansas State University in 1950.

Mr. Kelsey served on the board of directors of Kaw Valley State Bank and Trust. He was appointed to the State Selective Service Board by former Kansas Gov. William Avery, and he served on the Shawnee County Civil Service Board. He was past president of the Shawnee County Farm Bureau and a member of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. He had served on the Rossville School Board.

Mr. Kelsey also was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 17, in Topeka, where he served as master in 1965. He was grand master of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Kansas from 1972 to 1973. He was a member of Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene in Topeka, Scottish Rite, Arab Shrine, Sons of the American Revolution and Lion's Club. He was a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church and a 4-H Community leader.

He married Greta D. Townsend on Feb. 19,
1950, in Topeka. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Jeline Harclerode, Emporia; a son, Richard M. “Rick” Kelsey, Overland Park; two brothers, Scott W. Kelsey, Rossville, and Sam Kelsey, Silver Lake; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene in Topeka.

Mr. Kelsey will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel and after 6 p.m. today at the church, where visitation will be until 8 p.m.
