Scott E. Kelsey...community leader

Scott Kelsey Rites Monday
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Masonic Temple for Scott E. Kelsey, 71, 3455 Huntoon, past grand master of the grand lodge of Kansas and past potentate of the Arab Shrine, who was found dead Thursday in a field north of Topeka Municipal Airport.

Officials said he apparently died from natural causes. He had a heart ailment.

He was born July 3, 1899, at Topeka, and had lived his entire life in the Topeka area. He was a retired farmer and vice president of the Kaw Valley State Bank and Trust Co.

Historical Landmarks
His Northwood Farms, northeast of Topeka, landmarks of Kansas history, now are farmed by his three sons.

He was graduated from Kansas State University in 1918.

Mr. Kelsey was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church. He was past master and a 50-year member of Topeka Lodge No. 17, AF&AM. He was a member of Scottish Rite Bodies. He had received his 50-year membership to that organization on April 12. He also was treasurer of Scottish Rite Bodies.

He was a 33rd degree Mason and a member of York Rite Bodies.

In 1955, Mr. Kelsey was named grand master of Kansas Masons.

Memberships Listed
He was a member of the Red Cross of Constantine, the Royal Order of Jesters, and Beulah Chapter No. 34, OES.

Mr. Kelsey was on the board of directors of the Kansas Masonic Home, Wichita, and president of the Masonic Temple Building Committee Inc. He also was on the board of directors of the Methodist Home, Topeka.

He was a member of the Legion of Honor in the Order of Demolay. He was a member of the Hi-12 Club and Ancient Toltec Rite.

Historical Society
Mr. Kelsey was a longtime member of the Shawnee County Historical Society. In 1968, he was elected president of the Kansas Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.
