Kibbe Dies in Jeep Accident
Harry E. Kibbe, 24, rural Rossville, was killed about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 1981, when a 1976 Jeep he was driving overturned in St. Marys at the intersection of 9th Street and Highway 24. Kibbe was westbound on US-24 and attempted to make a left turn onto 9th Street on the west edge of the town when the accident occurred, a Kansas Highway Department spokesman said.
Kibbe lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over once before coming to rest on its right side. Kibbe and two passengers, William E. Heslet, 25, Rossville, and Rodney W. Dick, 27, Rossville, were thrown from the vehicle, and a fourth occupant, Darold D. Catron, 19, Rossville, remined inside.
Heslet was admitted to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center where he was in fair condition. He was admitted for observation, a hospital spokesman said.
Dick was treated at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center for abrasions to the back, a lacerated right hand and a fractured left finger, and Catron was treated at Stormont-Vail for bumps on the back, a hospital spokesman said. Both men were released after treatment.
The Kibbe vehicle had an estimated $1,000 damage.
