Obituary- Kovar, Benjamin 1

Benjamin H. Kovar
Benjamin H. Kovar, 82, Atchison, died Friday, August 25, 1989, at an Atchison hospital.

Mr. Kovar was a rural mail carrier for nine years before his retirement in 1969. Before that he had been a railway mail service clerk for 22 years, and owned and managed die farm where he was born. He served in the Army during World War II.

He was born November 20, 1906, in Delia, the son of Paul and Frances Kovarik Kovar. He was graduated from Delia High School in 1926.

Mr. Kovar was a member of the First Christian Cnurch, Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post #6 of the American Legion, the Railway Mail Association and the Atchison County Historical Society. He also was a member of the Shawnee County Conservation Association, National Association of Federal Retired Employees and the American Postal Workers Association.

He was married to Belva Webb on November 29, 1931, in St. Joseph, Mo. She died May 13, 1983.

Survivors include a son, Gary Kovar, Atchison; a daughter, Linda Contreras, Atchison; three brothers, Emial Kovar, Rossville, George Kovar, Merriam, and Henry Kovar, Overland Park; a sister, Letha Olejnik, Delia; three grandchildren; and two step- grandchildren.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery. Relatives and friends met from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Becker-Stanton Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, or the charity of the donor's choice.
